Under Construction

This Page is Under Construction

Due to world events and Canadian immigration law, I am enrolled in undergraduate linguistics with intention to fulfil prerequisites and enrol in graduate linguistics.

As such, while I am still studying toward accent and dialect coaching credentials, given my upbrining as an Australian, I am able to coach actors to use the Australian accent in the meantime until I graduate from my linguistics degreee.

Additionally given the immigration situation, the government has removed all other means to remain in the country on a work permit, relegating non-Canadians to study-permits. This restricts us from working enough to cover rent let alone the international tuition fees which are at 12000 average per term, twice a year.

So I have created some linguistic and dialect/accent use tools you can use.
I will upload them when ready along with a donation link, please consider donating.

In preparation:

  • Espanso YAML Script (Progress 99%)
Type IPA symbols without resorting to copying and pasting from an IPA website or chart app.
Input relies on text expansion. Programmed to insert an IPA symbol when its reference code is inserted between angled brackets “<” and “>”
    e.g. /ɪ/ is easilly typed via “/ < ih > /”
  • IPA Display Language pack - (Progress 0%)
For Nerds. Because I want t change all the display language in my Mac, Linux, and Windows, into IPA. And maybe someone else out there has the same level of geek to want it too.
  • QMK input IPA Keyboard: QWERTY and Place x Manner of Articulation (Progress 50%)
A QMK based IPA Keyboard. Currently stuck due to limited macros, and difficulty activating unicode.
  • Corpora / Dictionary of L2 Dialects formulated for actors
A reference manual of L2 English Dialects similar to the work of Paul Meier, covering less common and niche dialects. (Canadian, Broad vs Formal Australian etc.)
May include a bespoke means of notating prosody as it is useful in the context of acting; for natural pronunciation of an accented sentence that can be accessed without need to have lived with the accent over a long period of time.
